When the Bearcats beat the ECU Pirates last Thursday there were a few hidden, yet interesting stories on the field. One thing is for sure – thank you, Texas Tech. Please let me explain.
Tuberville Link: Coach Tubbs and ECU head coach Ruffin McNeil were both interviewed for the head coaching job at Texas Tech after Mike Leach was questionably fired for the alleged inappropriate treatment of Adam James, son of former ESPN college football analyst Craig James. McNeil was a Red Raider assistant for 10 years and the interim head coach for Tech at the Alamo Bowl in 2009. Despite McNeil’s close ties to the program, Texas Tech hired Tuberville. Given the outcome of Thursday night’s head-to-head matchup, it looks like Tech made the right call.
Hartsfield Link: UC defensive end Terrell Hartsfield initially committed to Texas Tech before eventually following Tubbs to Cincinnati. As a senior, the 6-foot-3, 245-pound, #95 Hartsfield is currently leading the AAC with 8 sacks. He has had a sack in every game, with the exception of Memphis. Apologies for bringing up that game…how about we just exempt Memphis from our memories?
