Houston Hires Cincinnati Native Tom Herman as New Head Coach

Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman has been named the head coach of the Houston Cougars, and signed a five-year contract.  He will still coach Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.

Houston plays PITT in the Armed Forces Bowl on January 2nd, and current defensive coordinator David Gibbs will serve as the fill-in coach.

Tom Herman is currently 39, and grew up in Cincinnati.  He then coached in Texas for 10 years at Texas, Sam Houston State, Texas State, and Rice, before becoming the offensive coordinator of the Iowa State Cyclones.  He has been calling the offensive plays at tOSU over the past three years under Urban Meyer, and during this span his offenses have blown up the stat books.

This year Herman won the Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in all of the land.

The Cougars were 21-17 under former head coach Tony Levine, and finished 7-5 this season.
