The Tulsa Golden Hurricane just hired Baylor offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery as their next football coach. And what an offense he ran behind Bryce Petty and the Bears! Baylor is the only team to be ranked in the top-four in total offense for the past four years. Under Montgomery’s play calling, Baylor averaged 48 points and 581 yards per game in 2014.
The 42 year-old Montgomery was a finalist for the Broyles Award, given to the nation’s top assistant coach, in 2013.
During his introduction, Montgomery said his motto on and off the field is “faith, family, football.”
He replaces Bill Blankenship, who was fired earlier this month after a 2-10 season and a 24-27 record over the past four seasons.
Although Phillip Montgomery has never been a head coach, I think it’s safe to say the AAC and Tulsa just received a major upgrade.
