• All-star/all-world/all-galaxy QB Gunner Kiel has been named to the pre-season Maxwell Award watch list. The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, has been given to “America’s College Player of the Year” since 1937. More recently, the award has been a de facto award for the nation’s best quarterback.
• Junior guard Deyshawn Bond has been named to the 2015 Rimington Trophy watch list. The Rimington Trophy goes to “the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I FBS College Football.”
• Four-star shooting guard Jarron Cumberland has committed to the UC basketball program and the 2016 class. This is a huge get from Mick Cronin! At 6’4” and 200 lbs. pounds he is ranked the #60 player in the class of 2016, the #11 shooting guard and #6 recruit out of Ohio. Even with the talent returning to Clifton next year, Cumberland could immediately contribute on the offensive end. The Cats need more shooters. Cumberland coming off the bench could be a huge weapon similar to Farad Cobb or even SK coming off the bench early in his career. Highlight video here…
