Officially listed at 6’1” and 180 lbs., sophomore defensive back #10 Alex Thomas arrived to Clifton from Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. Thomas is widely known as the biggest talker on the field. We spent a number of days at Camp Higher Ground over the summer, and at any given time it was easily to figure out where #10 was and if he just made a play. Thomas is a very lengthy corner and he does not back down from any challenge presented on the field.
Out of high school Thomas was ranked as a 2-star recruit. He played football and ran track in high school. Although he played receiver growing up, his speed and skillset was a natural fit at the college cornerback position. He chose UC over Bowling Green, Akron, Minnesota, and USF.
As a freshman, Thomas played in 9 games last year and tallied 23 tackles. However, Alex also played like a freshman. He admitted to getting burnt against Miami (OH) and looks forward to showcasing his improvements on the field this week against a dangerous passing attack.
As a starting corner this year, through 3 games he has already racked up 10 tackles, 3 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions, including a pivotal pick against Greg Ward in the end zone.
He wears #10 this year after his nickname and Instagram name, mac10_gobrazy. We look for #10 to continue his contributions for the remainder of the season on a much improved, turnover hungry, defense. It has been a longtime since the Bearcats have had a talented secondary and Alex’s future looks bright. Don’t be surprised if he racks up double-digit interceptions this year and continues to outplay his physical stature.
Thomas was sure to let us know his tradition of calling his parents and talking to them before every game. His go-to song to listen to is “Everyday” by Ralo featuring Lucci.
Thomas grew up in a difficult part of Florida and is excited to earn his college education, majoring in health education with a business minor. After his playing days are over, he hopes to start a fitness center for athletes back in Florida. These Ohio winters are no joke, and Alex really misses the sunshine down in Florida. Thomas loves to watch football in his spare time, especially the Arizona Cardinals. His favorite athlete is Patrick Peterson.
