On Thanksgiving Eve, UC survived the pesky Samford Bulldogs team. Although he was kept in check with early foul trouble, Kyle Washington continues to impress. In the second half he rattled off several buckets in a row, and still led UC with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks in just 21 minutes. Not a misprint – Washington is the real deal.
Kevin Johnson added valuable minutes and came through with 10. The Cats were down by as much as 16 in the first half after Samford went on a 24-0 run, but they pulled to within 5 at the half and never looked back, asserting themselves defensively in the second half.
The Cats shot the ball just 20% from beyond the arc and still pulled away. The Bearcats outscored Samford by 20 points in the second half. UC never flustered and kept their composure during the run, which is a great sign for games to come.
Next up UC plays the Lipscomb Bison at home on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Enjoy Thanksgiving folks!
