If you were curious, Lipscomb University is a small, private college located in Nashville, Tennessee, and a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Cats didn’t show any signs of a post-Thanksgiving slumber Saturday afternoon, almost hanging 100 on the scoreboard and getting to 5-1 on the season. The fans even got some “Tobler Time” as senior walk-on Zack Tobler took the court with a minute to play.
All-world freshman Jarron Cumberland led the team with 17 points off the bench, showing that he can contribute in a big way, in a hurry. Jacob Evans added 14. Kevin Johnson had 13. UC had just 11 turnovers, forcing 19. Troy Caupain continues to proficiently lead the team. He is not taking a ton of shots this year. He is not over-doing it. Rather, Troy is showing a lot of confidence in his team, and simply guiding them down the floor.
In a scary moment, Gary Clark went down midway though the first half with what appeared to be an ankle injury. He tried to get up, but quickly went back down, yelling in frustration. He had to be assisted to the locker room and could not put any pressure on his left foot. Unclear on the extent of Clark’s ankle sprain, Coach Cronin may have more updates later this week. On the year, Gary is averaging 8 points and 6 rebounds a game.
Next up UC hits the road to face #21 Iowa State on Thursday, December 1st. The game will air on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET. Let’s hope lady luck is on the Bearcats’ side after the heartbreaking loss to those corncobs last year.
