The University of Cincinnati women’s volleyball team earned a spot in the 2016 NCAA Volleyball Championship field. They have not been a part of the Tournament since 2011. This Friday the team will play the Florida State Seminoles in Gainesville, Florida at 4:30 PM EST.
22-9 on the year, the UC volleyball team finished 2nd in the AAC and won SEVEN total conference awards on top of earning a spot in the NCAA tournament.
- Head coach Molly Alvey won AAC Coach of the Year.
- Sophomore Jordan Thompson unanimously won AAC Player of the Year.
- Sophomore Jade Tingelhoff won AAC Setter of the Year.
- Sophomore Carly Nolan, Thompson, and Tingelhoff were selected as First Team All-AAC honorees.
- Senior Ciara Hill was named a Second Team All-AAC honoree.
Head coach Molly Alvey discussed the team’s many successes with assembled media this week. Coach Alvey noted that their inclusion in the NCAA Tournament this season was a significant building block for the program – a legacy for future teams.
Coach Alvey has believed in this team’s talent and potential from day one. More importantly, the team operates like a close-knit family, working well together on and off the court. Deflecting praise, Alvey attributed her Coach of the Year award from the American Athletic Conference to the team’s unity and the talented student-athletes that fill out the roster.
The trip to Gainesville presents an exciting challenge and opportunity for UC as Florida State enters the game 24-5. If they prevail, they’ll face the winner of Florida/Alabama State. Here’s a closer look at UC’s bracket…
