6’1″ CB Joshua Norwood Is Now #BearcatBound

The Bearcats have added yet another athlete to their 2015 recruiting class.  This time, CB Joshua Norwood, a Rivals 2-Star recruit, has chosen to attend the University of Cincinnati over Duke, Minnesota, and Purdue.

Norwood is a big, physical defensive back.  He has a nose for the ball with great instincts.  He played against recent Bearcat commit, Quintin Hampton.  If you’d like to watch some tape on him, the link below is great:

It should be fun to watch their brotherhood flourish under the lights at Nippert…

MY BOY @the_wait_ IS A BEARCAT NOW👌💯🏈🏈🏈

For the record, Tommy Tuberville is a good person.  ESPN recently ran an article about the coaching prowess of Duke University’s Derek Jones.  The article describes a moment in Jones’ life where Tuberville intervened with some words of wisdom.  Read More

Bearcats Transfer Jeremiah Davis III Eligible to Play This Fall

Local press in Muncie, Indiana are reporting that former Bearcat Jermiah Davis III will be able to play for the Ball State University basketball program this 2014-2015 season.  Ordinarily, the NCAA requires transfers to sit out for a one-year ineligibility period.  However, Ball State sought a hardship waiver because Davis III’s family home burned to the ground, leaving his family in crisis.

Tommy Tuberville Developing #Bearcat Culture

In case you missed it (because it was on an Auburn blog), there is a nice story about Tommy Tuberville’s trip to watch his son, Tucker, play in last year’s Iron Bowl (Auburn v. Alabama).  Tommy took one of Cincinnati’s boosters with him, and the experience was memorable.  If you recall, the ending to that game was so-so:

Another takeaway – Tuberville was 7-3 in his 10 seasons coaching against Alabama.  Roll Bearcats.

Bearcats Compared to Desperate Drunk Girl – Brian’s Five Friday #Hottakes – June 20, 2014

You’ve worked hard all week.  You deserve some “you” time this Friday morning.

So, wake up, wipe the sleep from your eyes, grab your cup of coffee, and make bearcatssportsradio.com a part of your Friday morning tradition.  In my mind, there’s no better way to wake up than with a quick-hitting recap of what’s happening in Bearcat land.  On today’s menu, Big 12 smack talk, Jeff Ruby, the Buckeyes, and recruiting.

1. Bearcats Compared to Drunk Girl by Big 12, Baylor Fans.

Conference realignment was a huge topic of conversation.  Now, it’s just a topic of conversation as most of the tectonic plates have already shifted.  As it is, just about everyone in the know realizes: (A) UC was unfairly excluded from one of the power conferences, and (B) conference realignment is not entirely finished.  The Big 12 still needs a full complement of teams.  West Virginia sits out on a bizarre island up in the mountains of…West Virginia.  Moreover, without 12 teams, there is no conference championship game.  With two spots to fill, fingers are starting to point at UC.

At this link, a member of the Baylor (Waco, Texas) community states: “The Bearcats have been pushing themselves on conferences harder than a drunk girl looking for a ride home when the bar is about to close.”  While that’s not necessarily the most flattering comment, they close their diatribe by saying that Cincinnati makes the most sense for the Big 12.  Of course, no one knows what conversations are going on behind closed doors, but UC’s AD Mike Bohn helped usher Colorado into the Pac 12…

2. Big Name Basketball Transfer, Jon Octeus, Is Visiting Cincinnati This Weekend.

Recently, I reported on the possibility of Jon Octeus transferring to UC.  Octeus stands 6’4″ tall, and averaged 13.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game at Colorado State last year.  He’s solid.  Let’s hope he enjoys his stay.  The weather this weekend looks okay.  He’s choosing between UC, Missouri, and UCLA.  Fingers crossed.

3. Vegas Has the Bearcats As a 21 Point Dog to the Buckeyes.

The Golden Nugget has released its early odds of the Bearcats upending the Buckeyes.  Right now, Vegas has UC as a 21 point underdog.  But, the Buckeyes are talking about us.  And they know it just might be a bit more competitive than the spread.

4. Bearcats Recruiting Is on Point; Many More #BearcatBound.

The Bearcats landed a number of highly-touted recruits.  For basketball, they are close to landing Jon Octeus.  And they did land Justin Jenifer.

Tommy Tuberville and company added QB Ross Trail, WR Braxton Neal, DE Marquise Copeland, LB Quintin Hampton, and speedster Antonio Howard.  Congrats to the coaching staff on these early gains!

5. UC Must Do Something to Get Students to Paul Brown This Fall.

The Bearcats ticket office announced that students could pay $10 for a ride to and from games.  Of course, that’s not that much money for a student.  Nevertheless, the University must do everything in its power to make sure the student body shows up big for all of the home games.  The worst thing that can happen for this team is an empty Paul Brown.  Momentum is building.  I don’t want to see that go away.

I’ve been in Twitter discussions with Restaurateur Jeff Ruby about making sure the students get there.

#Cincinnati must arrange free student transportation to #Bearcats games at Paul Brown. Could they ride on @TheRealJeffRuby's bus? @PrezOno

— BearcatsSportsRadio (@bearcatsradio) June 19, 2014

Ruby responded…

@bearcatsradio @PrezOno heckuva idea

— Jeff Ruby (@TheRealJeffRuby) June 19, 2014

Can’t wait until this fall.

Tommy Tuberville v. Nick Saban

Who knows whether the Alabama Crimson Tide will roll into newly-renovated Nippert Stadium next season?  But, if Alabama does, Saban will be facing one of the only coaches that had a winning record against him.  According to one SEC blog, Tuberville is 4-3 against Saban since 2000.  Obviously, that was a different time (‘Bama was rebuilding), with a different team (Tuberville coached Auburn), and a different conference (SEC), altogether.  Even so, I like what one Alabama author had to say about Tuberville:

“Story of his career. If you have one game to play and no one is giving your team a chance, there’s no better coach to have on your sideline than Tuberville.”

4-Star Southern QB Ross Trail Is #BearcatBound

Twitter/Snapchat: bearcatsradio /// Instagram: BearcatsSportsRadio June 18, 2014

Ross Trail

Just last evening, we reported that 3/4-Star QB Ross Trail’s trail could lead to Clifton.  Today, Trail has verbally committed to the University of Cincinnati.  We long-suspected that the Bearcats had an edge with Tommy Tuberville’s southern appeal.  Good to see that he is indeed #BearcatBound.

Where Does QB Ross Trail’s Trail Lead? Is He #BearcatBound?

Twitter/Snapchat: bearcatsradio /// Instagram: BearcatsSportsRadio June 17, 2014

Ross Trail

Sorry for the terrible pun in the article title; I couldn’t resist.  It seems as though quarterbacks always have catchy names (another pun).

Ross Trail is no different.  Trail is a 6’2″, 3-star quarterback from Wynne, Arkansas.  He has been offered by Ohio State, Louisville, and Memphis, among others.

It was originally reported that Trail wanted to go to Ole’ Miss; however, that has not quite panned out.  Now, other recruiting services are “crystal-balling” him to the Bearcats.  Tuberville may have the upper hand in wooing Trail to the Bearcats.  Tuberville is from Camden, Arkansas – just a hop, skip, and a jump from Trail’s hometown of Wynne.  In addition, Tuberville coached Ole’ Miss and may know how to best poison the Mississippi well.

So, does he land with the Bearcats?  Time will tell.  Meantime, the video below should orient you to Trail:

6’3″ Lakota West WR Braxton Neal Is #BearcatBound

Local product, Braxton Neal, has verbally committed to the University of Cincinnati today.  Neal played wide receiver at Lakota West High School, just north of I275.  Bearcat faithful have long said that in order to compete, Tuberville was going to have to recruit well in the greater Cincinnati area.  It looks like he is doing just that.

Neal had offers from Akron, Ohio University, Eastern Michigan and Indiana State.  Kentucky also expressed interest in Neal.

Neal is joining a quickly growing class of recruits for 2015.

Today, the Bearcats added Bedford, Ohio DE Marquise Copeland.  Copeland was a 3-star recruit according to some recruiting services.  For more on his addition to the 2015 class, click this link to hear what his local press has to say about him.

This is another great pick up for D-Line Coach Robert Prunty.
